Coastal & Ocean Management

Horsley Witten Group (HW) provides a wide range of coastal and ocean-related services to private and public clients including many coastal communities and government agencies in the United States and in other countries.

Coastal areas have been severely impacted by intense development with over 53% of the US population now living in coastal counties that compose less that 14% of the land creating challenging issues including coastal non-point source pollution, shoreline erosion, habitat loss, and conflicting uses competing for limited resources.  Offshore ocean waters are now being similarly impacted by increased activities including commercial and recreational fishing, maritime and cruise ship operations, offshore energy facilities, aquaculture operations and sand and gravel mining.

HW’s integrated water management approach focuses on the multiple linkages between land-use and coastal ecosystems and helps clients develop comprehensive options that provide for both sustainable uses of coastal resources and their overall environmental health.  This approach involves close cooperation with private and public interests, innovative technologies, expert scientific investigations, and strong community participation.
