MODULE-6 Smart Growth OpportunitiesCase Study: TDR Program, King County, WA King County's TDR Program (Chapter 21A.37) is a voluntary land use incentive program modeled after successful programs from communities like: The Pinelands, New Jersey; Boulder County, Colorado; and Montgomery County, Maryland. King County developed their TDR Program using the Countywide Planning Policies, the King County Comprehensive Plan Policies and the Executive's Smart Growth Initiatives as guiding documents. In addition to protecting water resources, fish and wildlife habitat, open space, and the City's rural character, the TDR program fosters sustainable growth by focusing development in and around urban areas with existing infrastructure. As of October of 2005, 91,500 acres of land or almost 143 square miles have been protected using this smart growth technique. next page - Brownfields Redevelopment
