MODULE-6 Smart Growth OpportunitiesCase Study: Brownfields Redevelopment of University District Area As part of a comprehensive Smart Growth plan to revitalize Spokane's University District, the City received an EPA grant award of $200,000 in support of the assessment and redevelopment of Brownfields sites within the Project area. Grant money will fund the assessments of potentially contaminated sites and facilitate a plan for remediation of Brownfields issues, including preparation of the sites for future use or green space development.
An extensive inventory of Brownfields located in the University District has been completed. Work will include the hiring of an environmental consultant to work with stakeholders to prioritize, perform assessments and develop remediation and cleanup alternatives.
