HW wetlands staff are trained and experienced in both freshwater and coastal wetland systems, and in the application of the Federal Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) wetland delineation methods and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) wetland delineation guidelines for Bordering Vegetated Wetlands. Staff are also certified as wetland scientists in the State of New Hampshire (CWS). Our field staff are experienced in the use of soils, hydrology, and vegetation in delineating wetlands and apply an interdisciplinary approach to wetlands projects.
Hw's wetland experience includes preparation of permit applications under the Federal Clean Water Act (33 U.S.C. 1251, et seq.) and the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act (M.G.L. Ch. 131 § 40), as well as permitting through regional and local permitting agencies. Additionally, HW provides peer review services on behalf of State and local wetlands permitting agencies. HW has also worked in conjunction with the Massachusetts DEP in developing and revising the Massachusetts Stormwater Policy, which is implemented through the
HW has also worked as a consultant to the US EPA where we have served as expert witnesses for a federal wetlands enforcement case, and in the preparation of outreach and educational documents for wetlands awareness and protection.
